Cleaning Centennial Pond.

Vol. 4

11/28/2025

The fourth cleanup would end up being the only one for November. I decided to take some time to get in some fall hikes, which really just meant that I would destroy the heels of a pair of thrifted boots.

Without those boots there's been a little bit more time to dedicate a few more hours to Baseline, and all the ground coverage / added attention at the pond have really made some solid improvements.The amount of places for smaller fish to spawn and therefore water fowl to feed, has easily 3x-4x the coverage since first coming to the pond. This is from reporting the local beaver activity, and after the parks dept surveyed the area;

Larger trees have been wrapped in wire to prevent unnecessary felling by beavers, smaller dead trees have been pushed into the water, and brush piles have been made for smaller animals to forage nest / den building materials.

The added improvements are showing themselves in the wildlife represented this week. Northern Shovelers, hooded mergansers, gadwalls, all more variety of fish eating and foraging water fowl. Increased turtle activity in the oxbow, bullfrogs are still jumping off the banks.

A lot more lively than I would’ve expected but that just goes to show what I know. Major items hauled out of the lake included a whole bike wheel, and a large plastic beverage crate.

The biggest upgrade to the setup this week has been a chest mount for a camera, and launching a YouTube page for Baseline Restorations in the meantime. At the time of writing, We’ve got 2 videos published, with plenty more to come.

The first cleanup of December is coming up. You can find a video of that, as well as November's hour-long final effort compressed into 5 minutes here.
